Moore Creek Campground (Mokelumne River)

Location:

  • 38º 28′ 43″ N, 120º 16′ 07″ W; 38 miles east of Jackson on Highway 88. Map apps will try to take you up 88 and over on Ellis Rd or Panther Creek Rd. other notes

  • National Forest info
  • good cycling nearby (but long hills)
  • Another great spot 2 more miles down the road at (38º 28′ 20″ N, 120º 18′ 12″ W), but VERY rough 4×4 road to get there.

2019 Update from Herve:

Really nice, but you are definitely not alone. Fishermen and families mostly, not yahoos.

  • 38.48203,-120.26507  sweet camp for one car, where I camped, not secluded, but big flat area next to swimming hole, 2wd ok, a couple sweet camps across the river
  • 38.47824,-120.26797  last campsite of moore campground, big and more secluded. low clearance ok, but there is a 100 feet section that is a bit difficult for 2wd low clearance.
  • 38.47238,-120.30328   big camp far from other camps but talked to a firsherman there who said people walk by there (I assume other fishermen), 4wd high clearance only
