Name: Dirt road north of the Sierra Buttes, next to the former PCT
This spot is on top of the ridge, so you get both sunrise views in the morning, and sunset views in the evening. On snowy years this might not be accessible till late June. You can hike to the top of the Buttes from here (8-10 hr hike) or you can drive to a closer starting point. The view from the top of the Buttes is incredible.
2018 update: The nearby trail is now a OHV trail, and the PCT has been moved down the hill. So expect periodic dirt bikes.
There are many official campgrounds nearby as well, and if you don’t want to camp, there are also some nice lodges nearby.
